PrivacyHow Snappy looks after your photos

Snappy is a private room for an event's photos. Privacy comes first: we built it so that we can't look at your photos.

Your photos

  • Photos and videos are encrypted on your phone before they are sent. Our server stores only encrypted copies and the keys stay on the phones of the room's members, so we can't open them.
  • Originals are kept exactly as taken (never shrunk or re-compressed). Small previews are made on the phone, encrypted too.
  • Only people who joined the room (with its invite link or QR code, and its passcode when it has one) can see its photos.
  • When you download, the photos are saved on your own phone or computer.

What our server keeps

  • The encrypted photos and messages of each room, and which phones are members (a random id per phone, no account).
  • If you turn on notifications: your browser's notification address. Notifications say only that something happened in a room; the room's name is added by your own phone.
  • If you add a phone number to your profile, it is checked with a one-time code and stored scrambled.
  • If you sign in with your number, Snappy keeps your name and, locked on our server, the keys a new phone of yours needs to join your rooms, so your rooms and photos come back on any phone. Leaving a room removes it from this list.
  • Counts for running the service (how many installs, app opens, downloads per day and the kind of device), with no names, rooms or photos.
  • Messages you send us from Support, and how to reach you only if you give it.

What we don't do

  • No ads, no selling or sharing your data, no face data on our server (Find me works on your phone only, and only if you ask).

Calls

Video and sound go directly between phones, encrypted by the browser. When a direct route isn't possible, a relay passes the already-encrypted packets along without being able to open them.

Deleting

  • Delete any photo you added; the host can remove photos and people from a room.
  • Leaving a room removes it from your phone. To have everything about you removed, write to us from Support (topic: Delete my data).
